Ebay shenanigans

Well, this might be the first and last time I deal with ebay. I mean, fantastic site of course, but it definitely causes headaches when you aren't too careful. So there I am with some spare cash to burn and I'm looking for somewhere to spend it. I haven't had an MP3 player in ages. My last one broke maybe about 3 years ago, somewhere around there, so I started to look into ipod touches. But to get to the meat of the story I bid on one on ebay and won (super reasonable price too). Overjoyed I sent my payment through paypal and continued on with my normal daily routines. The next day I checked my email to find that I received a message from the seller. Here he had run out of iPods and didn't have one to sell to me (Awesome, right?). Disappointed, I replied saying I understood and canceled the ebay transaction. I expected the refund through paypal to be linked to the cancellation process, but I was mistaken. I also made a mistake of bidding on, winning and paying for another iPod touch after canceling the first transaction. So I'm stuck here with an overdrawn checking account because the two charges came through at once. I frantically tried to contact the seller telling him of the manual paypal refund he has to follow through with. After not hearing from him for a day or two I opened up a paypal dispute and at this point I'm facing some lovely 37 dollar fees through my bank for the overdraw. So here I am still, waiting to hear back from this seller trying to avoid more fees from the bank. 'Tis most lovely.

So what I want to know is, if you have dealt with ebay, how were the majority of your experiences. Ever have any terrible experiences like this?

  1. the thing i dislike about ebay is the high ass percentage they take from an item you have sold. I sold 300$ worth item and they took almost 30$. Never selling there again

    bought something
    payed instantly
    waiting 10 day
    contacted the seller
    again waited 3 days
    wanted my money back+bad rating
    finally he contacted me(day 15)
    said he will send it
    day 19-still nothing-
    contacted him
day 22 he finally send it to me
    day 28 it arrived
seller commentet the bad rating with something like: user is likly to give bad ratings fast
raged, just raged for about two hours
never buying from a normal person again on ebay

  8. Got screwed by ebay myself
Won the bid on an old Miles Davis LP(low price so I was super happy) Got the message from the seller that he sent it the same day so i only had to wait like a couple of days, then what do i find when i open the package, a f***ing miley cyrus cd . I raged on ebay to him and destroyed his rating but still after trying to get my money back i'm stuck with my Miley cd...

  10. I like selling on ebay that has to be what I enjoy, buying cheap and selling high when I know its worth it. I still do my regular store shopping and the only time I like to deal and haggle with people is at flea markets. I have never run into an issue like yours and I hope I dont. Best of luck in the dispute.

  11. Too many hardcore ebayers out there. If you're bidding, beware of the last 20 minutes of a popular auction. A lot of cool things are lost that way.

  12. I used to use ebay a lot, but now it's mostly webstores on there and you can usually find a better deal on a different site.

  14. It once took about a month for something to ship from japan, because it had some mess-up in customs or whatever. It was only a small item, so I forgot about it and was suprised that it eventually came.

  23. I bought something on ebay a long time ago from some lame company called something along the lines of SuperUSA... and I waited, and I waited, and it never came. I finally contacted them and they said that they sent it, but it probably got lost in the mail. I wanted a refund, and they said it was MY job to get it insured since it came from Thailand (WTF?) so I was crap out of luck.

They refused to listen to me, so I had to open a dispute with Ebay where I said the seller's name is freaking SuperUSA for Christ's sake, it says they're based out of Houston, Texas, and no one told me it'd be shipped from TheMiddleofNowhere, Thailand. Took a week but ebay got my money back. The whole process, total: like a month. Never again. I can get just as great of deals on Amazon and no headaches.
